“THROUGH ITS WORKS, SAMSARA ALWAYS UPHOLDS VALUES OF RIGHT-BASED, YOUTH PARTICIPATION, YOUTH-FRIENDLY SERVICE, GENDER EQUITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY AND SPIRITUALITY”
Originally founded as a blog in 2007 by Inna Hudaya. Following the request of many women, the blog expand as a source and support for women with unplanned pregnancies where women can share their stories and ask question related to their pregnancies and abortion. A year later, 20 April 2008 in Jakarta, Inna Hudaya collaborate with Kikie Nikujuluw and Grace Clarissa Susetyo start an initiative to establish Samsara. Samsara is a right-based organization that promotes and support the access to education and information on SRHR and safe abortion. Samsara campaign for the recognition to safe abortion as an integral part of SRHR that linked to the agenda of the post 2015 millennium development goals.
VISION AND MISSION
Samsara vision is to create a more open world without discrimination and judgment where everyone’s sexual and reproductive rights fully recognized in respect to everyone’s bodies autonomy. In pursuit of this vision, Samsara’s mission is to to promote ‘Body Autonomy’ by improves access to education, information and counseling on sexuality and reproductive health and rights. And advocate for information and access to safe abortion care because we believe that women have the right and the authority to make decision over her own body.
AIMS
A. To Improve Maternal Health, includes (a)Provide access to safe abortion care to reduce the number of maternal mortality, (b) Promote youth-friendly services to achieve universal access to reproductive health.(c) Improves abortion counseling program and supports in the development of innovative approaches to address the most vulnerable women with unwanted pregnancy and/or post-abortive women.
B. To Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women,includes (a) Provide quota for women and transgender in the organization structure, (b) Educate and empower women by providing access to education and information on Sexuality and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), (c) Empowering all people and influencing social movements, expanding discourse and strengthening a supportive network.
APPROACH AND VALUES
Samsara relies first on the participation of the women and young people to ensure the success of its mission. Gender equity is one of Samsara’s values, this is why team spirit of Samsara mostly young people and consist of diverse gender and sexual orientation. Samsara put the women as the center of the service. Input from women and clients taken into account in expanding the programs. A number of experts, collaborate with Samsara as consultant from local, national and international networks. Expert interact as support for the organization to let the young people keep in the front line. Samsara is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion.It does not support or oppose any government or political system. It is concerned solely with the impartial protection of women rights
